Getting to the start
St Dogmaels has no railway station. The nearest is Fishguard (Richards Bros run a direct bus, roughly every 4 hours, about 39–51 minutes depending on direction, per a checked journey-planner summary), which is itself reached by rail via Whitland from the South Wales main line, or via the Fishguard-Rosslare ferry from Ireland. There is no realistic same-day flight-in option; Cardiff Airport is roughly 2.5–3 hours away by road or public transport.
Leaving the finish
Amroth has no station either. Tenby, about 6 miles/10km away, is the nearest, on the West Wales branch line via Kilgetty and Saundersfoot to Whitland and the South Wales main line — a genuinely practical way out. Pembroke Dock (Irish Ferries to Rosslare) is the other realistic gateway if heading on to Ireland rather than home.
The one-way journey
At 186 miles/285km, most walkers section-walk this trail over multiple trips rather than doing it in one push, which changes the parking calculus: the National Park Authority's £140 all-car-parks season ticket (valid March-October at all 14 of its charging car parks) is aimed squarely at this pattern, letting a car be left at whichever end of a given section is convenient across several separate visits. For a single continuous through-walk, the £30 7-day ticket at Poppit Sands or Amroth is the more relevant option, combined with the coastal bus network or a taxi to close the gap at the far end.
If you need to leave the trail early
Patchy and highly seasonal in a way that catches people out. Between 23 May and 27 September, the Puffin Shuttle, Strumble Shuttle and Celtic Coaster give genuine hop-on/hop-off coverage of the whole St Davids-peninsula section. Outside that window, that stretch has NO bus service at all on the operator's own current data — a walker relying on 'the coastal bus' in April or October will be stranded on that section specifically. The two Fflecsi on-demand zones (north-west Pembrokeshire, and Dale Peninsula/Haverfordwest) plug some of the year-round gap, Mon-Sat only, and the separate Coastal Cruiser (387/388) does the same for the Angle Peninsula in the south, Thu/Sat in winter. The West Wales railway branch (Milford Haven-Pembroke Dock-Tenby-Whitland) is the most reliable year-round bail-out for the southern third of the trail.

About 47km into the trail from St Dogmaels. Stena Line runs the Fishguard-Rosslare (Ireland) ferry here, roughly 4 daily crossings taking around 3h15m-4h depending on sailing, per checked route summaries — a genuine alternative approach to/from Ireland with a Transport for Wales SailRail through-ticket available. The station also has a direct rail link into the network (change required to reach Whitland/Cardiff). The Fishguard 410 town bus also calls at the ferry terminal.

The Pembrokeshire county town and the main inland public-transport hub for the middle third of the trail (Marloes/Dale/St Brides area). Route 315 bus links Haverfordwest to Marloes; the Fflecsi Pembrokeshire on-demand minibus zone also connects Haverfordwest to the Dale Peninsula and Milford Haven year-round (see bus network). West Wales line trains run onward to Milford Haven, Pembroke Dock and Tenby.

Irish Ferries runs Pembroke Dock-Rosslare (Ireland) year-round, around 2 sailings a day, roughly 3h45m-4h crossing, per checked route summaries — the other main Ireland gateway on this trail besides Fishguard. Also on the West Wales branch line (Whitland-Pembroke Dock), with trains on to Tenby and Whitland for the mainline.
